Different structural forms of UV disinfection equipment

UV sterilizers are widely used, but different UV sterilizers are used in different situations. UV sterilizers are classified into closed and open types depending on the boundary of the water flow. Let's take a closer look at the differences and similarities between the two.

1. The enclosed UV sterilizer is a pressure-bearing type, which is sealed with a metal cylinder and an ultraviolet lamp with a quartz sleeve to sterilize the water.

The cylinder is usually made of stainless steel or aluminum alloy, and the inner wall is mostly polished to improve the reflection ability of ultraviolet rays and enhance the radiation intensity. The number of ultraviolet lamps can also be adjusted according to the amount of treated water. Some sterilizers are equipped with spiral vanes on the inner wall of the cylinder to change the movement state of the water flow to avoid stagnant water and pipeline blockage. The turbulence generated and the sharp edges of the blades will break the suspended solids and completely expose the attached microorganisms. In the ultraviolet radiation, the disinfection efficiency is improved.

Enclosed is also divided into open and submerged. The open sterilizer is suitable for medium and large water treatment, and the special ultraviolet sterilizer for water plants is mostly used in sewage treatment plants. Closed sterilizers are generally suitable for medium or small water treatment or where pressure is necessary and the sterilizer cannot be used in open channels.

In various systems, the UV lamps of the outer casing sealed quartz sleeve can be arranged perpendicular or parallel to the direction of water flow. The parallel system has small hydraulic loss and uniform water flow, while the vertical system can make the water flow turbulent and improve the disinfection efficiency.

2. Open system

The water sterilized in the open UV sterilizer flows under the action of gravity through the UV sterilizer and inactivates microorganisms in the water. The open system can be divided into two types: immersion type and water surface type.

Immersion is also known as underwater irradiation. The ultraviolet lamp with the concentric quartz sleeve is placed in the water, and the water flows around the quartz sleeve. When the tube (group) needs to be replaced, the lifting device is used to raise it to the working surface for operation. The construction of this method is complicated, but the utilization of ultraviolet radiation energy is good and easy to maintain.

The water surface type is also called the water surface irradiation method, that is, the ultraviolet light is placed on the water surface, and the parallel ultraviolet light generated by the parallel electron tube sterilizes the water body. This method is simpler than the immersion type, but the energy waste is large, the sterilization effect is poor, and it is rarely used in practice.
